A Fan's Guide to the Game
These days the Boston Red Sox are the hottest ticket in New England. If you are heading out to catch a Red Sox game, you'll want to read our "Fan's Guide to the Game" below.
Who can resist the ambience of one of the league's most classic parks. Opened on April 20, 1912, Fenway Park is one of the only original stadiums still in use by a Modern Major League franchise. For a taste of the old days in a fabulous outdoor setting, there's no place quite like good ol' Fenway Park to experience America's favorite pastime. Most easily identified by "The Green Monster," a 37-foot high wall located a 310-foot stone's throw from the batters box (give or take an inch or two.) This icon of Americana has been reached by the likes of Ruth, Williams and a host of other America heroes throughout baseball's greatest decades. It's a testament to national spirit that has been standing tall for nearly a century strong.
Be sure to make use of public transportation anytime you visit Beantown. Parking is very limited near the stadium. If you plan your trip right, by hitting all the Irish pubs and sports bars surrounding the stadium, you'll be thankful you're not driving anyway. Make use of the MTBA's website to plan your arrival to the game. The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority provides a variety of convenient ways for Red Sox fans to get to the game using
public transportation. Try hitting up The Black Rose for lunch before the game. Good food, a great atmosphere and a pint of Guinness can be just the thing to put you in the Boston state of mind for a game.
No time for lunch before the game? Grab an Italian sausage from one of the vendors outside the Park. You might want to hold out for a Fenway Frank... or two once your inside. With a beer in one hand and a hot dog in the other, the intimacy of Fenway Park and the ghosts of baseball's past really seem to sink in. If you're not almost to tears by the time the National Anthem has been sung, at least you'll know this is what the game is all about.
You haven't experienced everything this great sport has to offer until you've attended a game at Fenway Park and felt the excitement of playoff fever as the Red Sox battle it out in the AL to play in the World Series! So get out and join the boys this summer as they defend baseball's greatest honor. |
