About the Cactus League
The Cactus League as a whole is the largest sporting event west of the Mississippi. Every year, more than 13 million people flock to the deserts of Phoenix and Tucson to partake in baseball nirvana. Eleven Major League teams make the Valley of the Sun their baseball home for the month of March. The stadiums of Florida's Grapefruit League are sprawled across the state from Orlando and Tampa to Fort Myers. All of the Cactus League stadiums are located very close together. Nine stadiums are located within a 50 mile radius in the Phoenix area, with two more in Tucson, less than a 2 hour drive away. This close proximity makes the Cactus League a favorite among baseball fans. Any given day a baseball enthusiast can pick from up to 9 major league match-ups, all within a short drive.
There is a certain atmosphere in the spring desert air that is hard to describe, you just have to experience it for yourself. If you get the chance, try to catch a couple of games this season. Enjoy the warm Arizona sun, giant hot dogs, draft beer and Major League baseball in tiny stadiums. Does it get any better than this?
