Joe Paterno Goes All Godfather on Reporters About a BCS Berth
Penn State may be 10-2 but their strong record is deceiving given the weak state of the Big Ten. Working against them is that they lost to Ohio State and Iowa at home, while both of those teams also finished 10-2 on the season. That’s going to make it difficult for the Nittany [...]

Abreu’s contract = Damon’s baseline
Ken Rosenthal (FOX Sports) speculates that super agent Scott Boras will ultimately use Bobby Abreu’s 2-year, $19M contract with the Angels as the baseline for Johnny Damon’s deal. Mike over at RAB considered this market influence a few weeks ago. In case you’re wondering, Damon was worth 3 WAR in 2009, while Abreu was worth [...]

What Happened To My College Football?
When I was growing up, Notre Dame mattered. It really doesn't anymore. Their last championship team was back in 1988. That team beat then-No. 1 Miami, won at then-No. 2 USC and beat then-No. 3 West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl for the National Championship. That was 21 years ago. None of the high school kids that the Irish are recruiting remember that. They were babies when the remember the Irish's last elite season (a 12-1 campaign in 1993). During those years, Miami had one of the gr...

JIMMIE JOHNSON WINS RECORD FOURTH STRAIGHT SPRINT CUP TITLE
Jimmie Johnson won a record fourth straight Sprint Cup title at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday to continue one of the most impressive - and underappreciated - dynasties in all of sports. Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus, and their Hendrick Motorsports crew, are the most consistently dominant team in Sprint Cup history. No driver before has ever accomplished a fourpeat. Only Jeff Gordon (four), Dale Earnhardt (seven) and Richard Petty (seven) have won as many or more championships as John...

Fire alarm at hotel gives unwanted wake up call to New York Jets
In the first half of a big divisional game against the New England Patriots, the New York Jets came out sluggish, getting outscored by 17 points and converting just two first downs over the first 30 minutes. Maybe it's because the team is still tired from last night.Late last night, a fire alarm was pulled in the Jets team hotel, rousing members of the team out of their slumber and forcing them to vacate their rooms. Except there was no fire and it was the Jets team hotel. You do the math...

Les Miles Told Jordan Jefferson to Spike the Ball, Then Lied About it
We’ve already covered the Les Miles/LSU screw up to end the Ole Miss game at great lengths. If his mistakes weren’t enough, even google was picking on him calling him an idiot. But making matters worse is that Les Miles lied after the game, denying that the coaches instructed quarterback Jordan Jefferson to [...]

Ricky Williams - Battier Than You Realized
Williams credits his success and durability this season to a new type of alternative medicine. No, he doesn't mean weed, as we're all assuming. Ricky's "pranic healing" regimen is far stranger. Prana is a sort of life force referenced in ancient Hindu texts, so that's not particularly weird on its own. Reiki, acupuncture, or even massage is based on similar principles. But Williams's pranic healer treats him even during games - from his home in Orange County, Ca...

Potential Notre Dame Coaches for 2010
I think we all know that Charlie Weis is getting the boot after this season because Jesus is pissed off with the lack of Notre Dame production and Jesus takes his football very very seriously. So whom will Jesus choose as the next coach? The amount of people available are plentiful. But the amount of people qualified are so few. 10. Bill Belichick Qualifications: 3 Super Bowl Championships as a Head Coach 2 as a D-Coordinator, arguably the best coach in football history. Weakness: Has he won ...

Somebody get Shane Vereen an ice pack and a publicist
California 34, Stanford 28. Cal running back Shane Vereen may never be mistaken for the spectacular blazer he replaced in the Bears' backfield, Jahvid Best, or the thundering Mack truck on the opposite sideline tonight, Toby Gerhart, and may never approach the broad star power of either. But Vereen shouldered as many carries against the Cardinal (42) as any back in the country has endured in any game this season, for 193 yards and three touchdowns en route to leading the Bears to their bi...

The Ducks (9-2, 7-1 Pac-10) will earn a Pac-10 title and Rose Bowl berth with a victory over No. 20 Oregon State in a winner-take-all Civil War on Dec. 3 in Eugene.

Steve Slaton To Start On Monday Night
From John McClain (with a tip o' the cap to texanphil): "I had an assumption that I would start, but nothing was concrete until now," Slaton said after being told by coach Gary Kubiak that he would be starting. "I'm happy about it. It's an opportunity I have to take full advantage of." It probably goes without saying, but I like this move a whole lot. Ryan Moats got the start in Indianapolis because of Slaton's fumbling; Slaton responded by holding onto t...

We didn’t get to the Finals for nothing!!!

What's up everybody???

Beating Boston on Friday, now that’s what I’m talking about. It just killed me last week missing the loss to Cleveland, and I was determined to bring it for this game against the Celtics. These are what I like to call statement games and you always have to go out with the mindset that you need to prove yourself to the opponent and to everybody in the NBA.

We were back in Boston for the first time since May when we beat the Celtics in a Game 7. Not many people gave us a chance that night, and I’m sure they didn’t give us much of a chance again on Friday. But I think we showed people some things with the way we won this game. Coach Van Gundy always told us when we’re not playing well on the offensive end that’s when you’ve got to pick it up on defense. Our defense kept us in this game, no doubt.

This is a big win for us and a real confidence boost. Cleveland came in (last week) and took it to us. This kind of lets us know that we’re still a good team. We didn’t get to The Finals for nothing. We’re still a very good team.

And we’re a team on the same page. There was a lot of talk in the media the last few days about Stan Van Gundy’s negativity towards us in practice and in games. Stan is an intense dude and sometimes he really goes at us. All of that bashing can take a toll on some guys, so Stan said he’s going to try and limit his negativity in the future. (We’ll see how long it lasts!!! Ha ha ha)

On Friday, Stan was positive the whole night. He did do a good job of cutting back on the screaming and yelling. He was doing more coaching in the huddles instead of bashing. Usually he bashes us for the first two minutes of the timeouts and then he’ll coach the game. Last night he was strictly coaching.

I really think that’s going to help us out and let guys feel like they can play looser and not have to worry about being so uptight. Instead of getting mad at coach and going out there playing frustrated this way sort of put our minds at ease. Stan just has to pick and choose his moments and not try to be a nice coach. He still has to stay on top of us because that makes us play harder.

I’m just hoping that by beating Boston we showed people we’re still a pretty damn good team. It seems like the Lakers, Cavs and Celtics get all the pub as being the top teams, but maybe this will make folks remember the Magic.

I also gave away 3 tickets to Angel last night in Boston, whose Dad left me a message on my Saynow # (1-888-9RAWLEW). Stay in touch, may be you next time. Outta here for now, but I wanna hear back as to what you guys think about how we played last night. Ya’ll be good!!! Don't forget to vote for me and my bro's for 2010 NBA All-Star!!!

SHARD

Video: Nate Robinson shoots on wrong basket, D'Antoni snaps
Funny moment from Saturday's Anti-NBA Finals game: 0.5 seconds left in the first quarter. Knicks inbound the ball to guard Nate Robinson(notes). The New York guard, for whatever reason, turns and purposely heaves a 30-foot shot at the Nets' basket. Goes in. Cue mustache rage. Now, as you can see, the shot came just after the buzzer, but Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni was absolutely livid. He even stormed a few feet onto the court and started yelling at Nate. Nate's classic response...

Orange Win 2k Sports Classic
Wow. I would be lying if I told you I thought the Orange would be 4-0 at this point of this season. I would have been pleased with 3-1. The team lost its top three scorers from last season, including Jonny Flynn who basically controlled every aspect of the offense last year. Syracuse easily beat Robert Morris and Albany. I had hope and optimism from those two games because the Orange not only beat those teams, but they beat them easily, something that Syracuse really has not done for the past...
