There are probably a number of label executives in Nashville kicking themselves right now for not signing Taylor Swift years ago. At the age of eleven she made her first trip to Nashville, distributing a demo of her singing karaoke songs to every label on Music Row. Undaunted when she was rejected, a year later she had learned to play the 12-string guitar and was now writing her own songs.

With a style that is influenced by Leann Rimes, Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift continued to work on her music until signing the record deal she wanted with Big Machine Records, a deal that allowed her to record her own songs. 2006 saw the release of her debut self-titled album. The first single from that album was Tim McGraw, a song she wrote as an ode to her boyfriend at the time. She was just a freshman in high school when she wrote the tune! The song eventually peaked at Number Six on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart in January of 2007. The album was a big hit, topping the Country Album Chart and peaking at Number Five on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart.

Her second effort Fearless has proven she has not suffered the sophomore jinx, debuting at Number One of the Billboard Hot 200 and also topping the charts in Canada. Taylor Swift made music history when Fearless logged nine weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 200, becoming the first female country music artist to accomplish the feat.
