Morrissey Artist Information
Popular alternative music has been treated to the vocals of Steven Patrick Morrissey for over 30 years now. An icon of alternative music, Morrissey continues to be a force today, and TickCo has your tickets to see him live in concert!
Morrissey grew up with a love for pop music, writing to popular U.K. magazines such as Melody Maker and N.M.E. with his opinions on the current music scene, and being a part of fan clubs for bands such as the New York Dolls and the Cramps. In 1982 he befriended guitarist John Maher and the two formed a songwriting partnership. Maher changed his name to Johnny Marr and Steven Morrissey decided to perform under his surname only. The early beginnings of U.K. legends the Smiths were born.
The Smiths to this day are an extremely influential and popular band. They only existed as a working unit for five years, but a slew of popular singles and a wildly loyal fan base have kept the band in the public eye twenty-plus years later.
Morrissey released his first solo disc Viva Hate in March 1988, six months after the release of Strangeways, Here We Come, the final Smiths disc. The album firmly established Morrissey as a successful artist in his own right, with the singles Suedehead and Everyday is Like Sunday both charting in the Top Ten on the U.K. singles chart.
Morrissey released seven albums between 1988 and 1997, then waited seven years before releasing any new material. He continued to tour during that time and add to his legacy, both as a musical artist and as a controversial figure in popular culture. Despite his very public feuds with other artists, his political rants, and his highly militant stance regarding animal rights, Morrissey remains a popular artist today and sells out venues around the world when he performs.
Make sure you do not miss an opportunity to see Morrissey live as he travels the globe, delivering engaging pop melodies, insightful lyrics and a vocal delivery Rolling Stone magazine named one the 100 Best in Music. Morrissey tickets are available from TickCo today!
