Back in the mid-nineties a band by the name of Brawl in Chicago, Illinois, had just finished putting together a demo when the lead singer at that time decided to leave the band. Auditions were held for a new lead singer, and a young man by the name of David Draiman walked in and blew the rest of the band away. He joined their roster in 1996 and the name of the band was soon changed to Disturbed.
The band honed its craft in the nightclubs and recorded several demos before signing with Giant Records. Their debut album The Sickness dropped in 2000. Disturbed's powerful brand of nu-metal and the unique vocal delivery of Draiman was a big hit. The album peaked at Number 29 on the Billboard Hot 200 and sold over four million copies in the U.S. alone. Stardom had arrived, and Disturbed was able to land a coveted headlining spot on the roster for the 2001 Ozzfest Tour. Now full-fledged superstars, the band unveiled its own tour, and the first edition of the Music as a Weapon Tour was unleashed later the same year.
The band continued to roll, and their next three albums all topped the U.S. Album Chart. Disturbed became only the seventh rock band ever to accomplish that feat. Their sound has continued to eveolve with each successive release, moving forward from their alt and nu metal sound to a more pure metal and rock and roll style, especially in guitarist Dan Donegan's work. They possess a more mature, complex sound than in the early days of the band.
2009 will see the fourth edition of Music as a Weapon, and this time Disturbed will have support from Chimaira, Killswitch Engage and Lacuna Coil. Another round of metal awaits you with Disturbed at the helm. Lock up the premium tickets today and get set for all the hard-hitting rock and roll!
