Dirty Dancing focuses on the love affair between Frances "Baby" Houseman and Johnny Castle. This is truly a tale of love between two people on opposite sides of the tracks, as Baby comes from an affluent family that is vacationing at the summer resort where Johnny is the dance instructor.
Baby develops a crush on Johnny and he shows her a world she never knew existed, as she is fascinated by the type of "dirty dancing" Johnny and his friends and co-workers at the resort enjoy. Baby comes of age during the show and although she and Johnny come from completely different worlds, she shows that she is a woman of conviction. Johnny realizes this eventually as the production comes to a dramatic end with a breath-taking, dancing finale.
The music from the original movie remains, but creator Eleanor Bergstein was able to add more music, more scenes between Baby and Johnny, and perhaps most important, more dancing to this theatre version.
