Inspired by the musical Les Misérables, David Archuleta started singing at the age of six and performed publicly for the first time when he was ten years old. An immediate success winning the Child Division of the Utah Talent Competition, Archuleta fine-tuned his craft on shows such as Star Search.

Only 16 years of age when trying out for American Idol in 2007, David Archuleta not only impressed the judges with his vocals, but played the piano during the Hollywood auditions. Once on the show he amassed an impressive legion of fans who called themselves "Archies" and "Arch-Angels". Losing a close final with 44% of the vote, it was not long after American Idol before he signed with Jive Records and released his debut self-titled album. Both the disc and the first single Crush peaked at Number Two on the Billboard Charts.
