Blink 182 Artist Information
Pop punk got a big-time shot in the arm in 1992 when Tom DeLonge met Mark Hoppus. The two began sharing music they had each written with one another, and an informal jam session in DeLonge's garage led to the two deciding to form a band together. Adding DeLonge's friend Scott Raynor to the mix on drums formed the inital creation of Blink-182, with the original band name being Duck Tape before the change to simply Blink.
The trio recorded a few demo tapes before signing with Cargo Music in 1994. Cargo released Blink's studio debut Cheshire Cat in February of 1994. Shortly after the album was released, an Irish pop band with the same name of Blink threatened to sue the band over naming rights. It was at this time the band added "182" to their name and became the band they are known as today.
Blink 182's second album Dude Ranch was a moderate success. During the tour for this album in 1998 Raynor was replaced with former Aquabats drummer Travis Barker. This would prove to be a critical move for the band.
The release of their third disc Enema of the State in 1999 propelled Blink-182 to the mainstream. The album peaked at Number Five on the Billboard Hot 200 Album Chart, went platinum five times over and brought the band their only Top Ten single on the U.S. Hot 100 to date, All the Small Things. Blink 182 were bonafide stars now, and their next two releases went to Numbers One and Three on the Billboard Hot 200 Album Chart respectively.
Typical with many bands, strife started to rip Blink-182 apart. The band played their last show togther in December 2004. DeLonge went on to form Angels and Airwaves, while Hoppus and Barker formed +44. Both bands were successful, but fans wanted the return of Blink 182. Finally, their wish has been granted.
With plans for a new album in 2010 and a tour in 2009, Blink 182 is back with intentions of re-claiming their throne as pop-punk kings. Their tour will include a number of popular indie and pop-punk bands, including Weezer, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, All-American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday, Asher Roth and Chester French. Not every band will make every stop of the tour. Please check the listings in your area for a complete line-up!
