A native of Texas, Bill Engvall was working as a disc jockey with plans of moving into education when he jumped onstage one night at a nightclub to try his hand at stand-up comedy. He loved the idea of making people laugh and figured he would give comedy a full-time shot. What a great decision this gentleman made years ago!
Moving to Los Angeles, he was able to work his way through the circuit and eventually started landing some prominent roles. He had a prime spot in a Showtime special by the name of A Pair of Joker's, hosted A&E's An Evening at the Improv, and appeared on both The Tonight Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. His hard work led to Bill Engvall winning the American Comedy Award for "Best Male Stand-Up Comedian" in 1992.
Bill Engvall had stardom staring him in the eye and continued working hard, appearing in more specials until starring alongside other comedians in Blue Collar Comedy Tour, The Movie. An enormous success, the movie at that time was the highest rated show in Comedy Central history. The two follow-up movies, as well as the sketch comedy show on cable, Blue Collar TV, were massive successes as well.
However, Bill Engvall is talented enough to not need an ensemble cast to make an audience laugh. In 1996 he released his debut CD Here's Your Sign, aptly named after one of his sketches that to this day remains an integral part of his routine. The disc shot up the charts, landing in the Top Five on the Country Album Chart and peaking at Number 50 on the Billboard Hot 200, an amazing accomplishment for a comedy album. He has created many more hit albums since, with a couple of them topping the Comedy Charts, as well as a hit single with Travis Tritt entitled Here's Your Sign (Get the Picture), that peaked at Number 29 on the Country Singles Chart and Number 43 on the U.S. Singles Chart.
Bill Engvall knows how to entertain an audience, and the biggest part of his charm is his ability to use normal, everyday scenarios and paint a humorous portrait about them. This allows him to truly identify with his fans and why he is as popular as ever. Check out for yourself the brilliant comedy of Bill Engvall from the best seats in the house!
