At the age of eight Beyonce met LaTavia Roberson and along with Kelly Rowland, already a friend of Knowles, the girls formed a band by the name of Girl's Tyme. Various line-up and name changes occurred until settling on Destiny's Child in 1996.
An extremely successful group, Destiny's Child scored two Number One albums and ten Top Ten Billboard Hot 100 Singles, including four that topped the chart. When Destiny's Child released the 8 Days of Christmas holiday album in 2001, they announced at that time they were going on hiatus.
This was a great move for Beyonce, as she released her solo debut Dangerously in Love in June 2003. The disc was an enormous success, debuting at Number One on the Billboard Hot 200, going four times platinum, producing two Number One singles, and earning Beyonce five Grammy Awards in 2004. Her solo career was off to a spectacular start!
To her credit, Beyonce returned to help record the final Destiny's Child album Destiny Fulfilled, which was released in 2004. Once their world tour ended in September of 2005, the group officially disbanded.
Since then Beyonce has continued to add to her status as an all-around entertainer, adding acting and producing to her resume. More important, she has released two more albums since the last Destiny's Child tour, B'Day and I Am ... Sasha Fierce. All three of her albums have topped the charts and she has scored more than ten Top Ten singles. To date, five of those songs have topped the charts!
