Jimmie Johnson is Happy With His Team; Kasey Kahne Isn’t
Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne both have somewhat similar stories. One was called “The next Jeff Gordon”, while the other’s car is co-owned by Jeff Gordon. Both came from the Busch(now Nationwide) Series without much success, each having just one win apiece. Both have driven for just one race team in their Cup careers. Both drivers own [...]

Get to know Dave Rogers, Kyle Busch's new crew chief
We all know Kyle Busch's team is running with a new crew chief. Seemed the perfect time to make the swap, considering the old one, Steve Addington, had just won the Wypall Crew Chief of the Week Award by helping Kyle come from 41st to finish fourth at Martinsville. So who's the new kid in town, this Dave Rogers? Like most of the people working in NASCAR, Dave got stars in his eyes as a small child, going to local races with his dad and reveling in the thunder and excitement. Having wo...

Kasey Kahne's eyes are beginning to wander from RPM
We're inside 48 hours from the final race of the season, and with the drama all but squeezed out of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, we're forced to look elsewhere for our storylines of interest. So thank you, Kasey Kahne, for giftwrapping this one for us. Kahne, as you know, is one of the most talented drivers on the track but one who's often suffered because of equipment that doesn't measure up to his skill level. He's entering the final year of his contract with Richard Pet...

Jimmie Johnson on Verge of History
by Holly CainFiled under: Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Chase for the Sprint Cup, Hendrick MotorsportsMIAMI -- NASCAR's Championship Weekend officially kicked off Thursday during a contenders press conference that couldn't have been less like boxing's version of a pre-bout showdown. This was more meet-and-greet than stare-and-glare. The players here -- three-time defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Mark Martin -- like each other, so mu...

Jamie McMurray Goes Home; Rusty Wallace goes Foreign
How’s this for a busy day? After virtually no Silly Season action in weeks, two big announcements have been made in the last 24 hours regarding to of NASCAR’s big names. The first is Jamie McMurray, who has partnered up with his old team… sort of. McMurray has inked a one-year deal with Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing to drive the [...]

How Jeff Gordon could still win the Sprint Cup championship*
The Sprint Cup championship is all but sewn up for Jimmie Johnson, but there's still an outside chance Mark Martin could win. With a single race left, Mark Martin is 108 points behind Johnson. Using this points system as a guide, we break it down.If Johnson finishes 25th or better, the Chase is over. Martin can't win even if he finishes first and leads the most laps.If Johnson finishes 30th, Martin would have to win the race, but he could go without leading the most laps. And if Johnso...

Jamie McMurray is now #1 ... on his car, at least
This is how silly season ends, not with a bang but with a long-expected and finally-confirmed move: Jamie McMurray will be driving the #1 car for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing in 2010.McMurray, of course, was the odd man out when NASCAR laid down a four-car maximum rule for team owners. Earlier this summer, Jack Roush decided to keep David Ragan and let McMurray go, which led to the awkward scene of Roush congratulating McMurray after Jamie won the Amp Energy 500 in Talladega a couple weeks back.T...

Jimmie Johnson: The Great Unknown
by David WhitleyFiled under: Jimmie JohnsonJimmie Johnson doesn't need help winning. He desperately needs help making people appreciate winning. He's about to clinch his fourth straight Sprint Cup title. To put that in layman's terms, Johnson is the Yankees, Patriots and American Idol wrapped into one. That makes Johnson the most under-loved dynasty in sports history. When he wins the crown this Sunday at Homestead, most of America will stifle a yawn unless he pops out of the cockpi...

Jimmie Johnson: Toast of the Coast
by Holly CainFiled under: Jimmie Johnson, Chase for the Sprint CupEL CAJON, Calif. _ If not for Gary Johnson's tendency to get seasick, there's a good chance his son Jimmie Johnson might have been a fisherman, pro surfer or a boat racer instead of making his mark as one of the best NASCAR champions of all time. Gary's father -- Jimmie's grandfather -- spent decades on the ocean as a merchant marine, establishing the family's roots in San Diego, California. His love of the ...

2010 is a rookie-less NASCAR season, so far
So Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch and Mark Martin are dueling for the Cup championship. Tony Stewart is right there behind them. And Dale Earnhardt Jr. is sitting in the top 5, on the cusp of a possible championship run. What? I'm talking about this day in 2004, not 2009. The point being, of course, that five years ago, NASCAR looked a whole lot like it does today at the top of the standings. Guys like Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch and Juan Pablo Montoya have made their charges, but ...
