Cowboys, Eagles covering punts well
The flip side to the meeting of punt returners Patrick Crayton of the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia's DeSean Jackson on Sunday is that each will go against coverage units that have been good recently. In the last six games, the Eagles have allowed only 3.9 yards per punt return with nothing longer than 11 yards. In the Cowboys' last three games, they have allowed only 3.6 yards per return. In that span, Mat McBriar has had six punts inside the opponents 20.

Crayton, Jackson have differing styles
Two premiere punt returners will meet on Sunday: Patrick Crayton of the Dallas Cowboys and DeSean Jackson of Philadelphia. They have markedly different styles. Jackson has averaged 15.6 yards with one touchdown for 14 returns. He gets his yardage with speed and elusiveness. Crayton has averaged 16.6 yards with two touchdowns, one in each of the last two games, for 17 returns. Eagles special teams coach Ted Daisher described Crayton as a ``north-south'' returner with no fancy touches...

Cowboys need 'good Romo' to avoid bad outcome
Clifton Brown Tony Romo thought he was done dealing with unhappy wide receivers. Roy Williams and Romo are not clicking, and Williams is wondering why‹out loud. Not exactly what the Cowboys (5-2) needed, heading into tonight¹s showdown against the Eagles (5-2). However, locker room unrest is nothing new for the Cowboys, who are riding a three-game winning streak and playing their best football of the season. "We understand what kind of football team they are,&qu...

Key matchup: Cowboys CBs vs. Eagles WRs
In the Cowboys Stadium regular season opener, New York Giants wide receivers Mario Manningham had 10 catches for 150 yards and a touchdown and Steve Smith had 10 catches for 134 yards and a touchdown. Since then no wide receiver has had more than six catches or more than 91 receiving yards against the Cowboys. But Jackson and Maclin represent the Cowboys' biggest challenge of the season. "Our main goal this week is to not give up [big plays]," Jenkins said. "As long as ...

Breaking down the Cowboys-Eagles matchups
When the Cowboys run Averaging 147.6 yards a game on the ground, the Cowboys are ranked sixth in the NFL but haven't had a running back have a 100-yard game since Week 2. Philadelphia hasn't allowed a rusher to have more than 87 yards in a game this year, but they have shown a tendency to wear down. Plus Marion Barber and Felix Jones are healthier. EDGE: Cowboys When the Cowboys pass Tony Romo has seven touchdowns and eight interceptions in five starts vs. the Eagles in his career bu...

How to Beat the Eagles
We've all seen the games between the Cowboys over the last few years. They are usually close and there are usually big plays for both teams throughout the game. Last year's season finale was the obvious exception. But with the Eagles adding another play maker in Jeremy Maclin this season and the Cowboys discovering the talent of Miles Austin it seems like both teams are primed for a shootout. While that would be entertaining for fans who like scoring I think the Cowboys would be makin...

For the Dallas Cowboys and the Beasts of the NFC East, The Road Ahead is All Uphill
The NFC East is boiling down to the Big Three and the Big Mess. Dallas, Philadelphia, and New York will duke it out for the Division Title while the Redskins just duke it out. (Of course, this assumes the Giants will right their listing ship soon.) All Dallas Cowboys fans get nervous as the holidays approach [...]

Marty B. absent on explosive plays
The Cowboys consider tight end Martellus Bennett one of their most explosive talents. It hasn't shown up yet this season. The Cowboys chart explosive plays this way: any run of 12 or more yards and any reception of 16 or more yards. The team has come up with one of these plays every seven times the ball is snapped. That comes to 63 explosive plays spread among 10 players. Bennett is not on the list. Here is the breakdown through seven games. Miles Austin _ 14 Marion Barber _ 10 Felix ...

Eagles aware of Bobby Carpenter
The recent productive play by Dallas Cowboys linebacker Bobby Carpenter caught the attention of Philadelphia offensive coordinator Marty Morhinweg. ``He's very good,'' Morhinweg said. ``He's made a couple of real good tackles with a blocker right there. He's playing at a high level, and they are putting him in situations that are his strength.'' Carpenter, credited with participating in eight tackles and one sack in the last two games, plays primarily in the pass...

Witten believes this Cowboys offense is special
The Cowboys have gained more yards through the first seven games than at any time over the last 33 years. They are coming off a game where six players ran the ball and 10 players had receptions, a show of diversity that has occurred only one other time in club history. With three rushers gaining more than 230 yards, four receivers with more than 240 yards and nine different players who have found the end zone, this group rivals the prolific offense of the 2007 team that went 13-3. "Don...

The Cowboys' 'No. 1 Receiver'? All That Matters Is That They Have One
by Charlie Riedel - AP Who's #1? Who cares, as long as Dallas wins. View full size photo » Roy Williams is the fourth-most productive pass-catcher on the Dallas Cowboys, and if the glass is half-full, well, heck ... somebody's got to be No. 4. We are being inundated this week with mainstream-media panic (not to mention quotes from Roy that make it sound like he's panicking, too) due to what I find to be ...

Wade Phillips on Romo-to-Williams
Wade Phillips was in a joking mood today. When talking about Martellus Bennett not being involved much in the offense he offered up that maybe Bennett and Tony Romo are not on the "same page." He said the same about Romo and Williams. Speaking of Williams and Romo, Phillips doesn't believe all of the talk - and that's what it is really - will bother his team in getting ready for Sunday's game at Philly. "They're working hard to try to do well and they worked e...

Williams: 'I'm not T.O.'
One day after suggesting that Tony Romo was to blame for his lack of production, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams said he's no Terrell Owens. "I'm not a T.O., or I'm not trying to be a T.O.," Williams told reporters Wednesday in Irving. "I don't know why people are trying to put me in that category, because I'm happy to win. I've said that 100 times." Williams said Wednesday he was puzzled that he hasn't been able to connect with Romo...

Romo on Roy Williams: it will come
Since we've all been sucked into the why doesn't Roy Williams catch more passes vortex, here is what Tony Romo had to say on the subject Thursday. "You've just got to keep working,'' Romo said. Romo has completed 61 percent of the passes he's thrown to Miles Austin, 52 percent to Patrick Crayton and 38 percent to Willi...

Romo: Cowboys core too strong to be divided
Quarterback Tony Romo fielded several questions about his inability to click with Roy Williams. After answering two of them, he was asked why he believes Williams' numbers are so low. "I don't look at the numbers,'' Romo said. "I don't know what would be good numbers and what wouldn't be. "You know, we've been through this before with people trying to intersect and divide us as a football team. This team is too strong from the core. "I know t...

Getting Jason Witten down the field
Jason Witten leads the Cowboys with 37 catches, putting him on pace for 85 this season, which would be the third-best total of his career. But he has just 348 yards, putting him on pace for 795 yards. He is averaging 9.4 yards per catch, more than 2 yards off of his career average (11.5). Witten is not being asked to stretch the middle of the field as much this year. "I don't know what it is," Witten said. "Some of that stuff over the middle, I'm getting tackle soon a...
