Gary Edward "Garrison" Keillor is quite a Renaissance man, making contributions in literature, humor, journalism and music. Garrison Keillor began his distinguished career in radio broadcasting in 1969, hosting a morning show which was dubbed A Prairie Home Entertainment.

The morning program evolved into A Prairie Home Companion. The format was an old-style variety show, performed before a live audience and full of music, comic skits, commerical spoofs, serial melodramas done in parody form and weekly monologues about a fictitious Minnesota small town that was loosely based on Keillor's own hometown. The show became a huge hit and ran until 1987.

Six years later Garrison Keillor revived the program and it continues its successful run today. The success of the show led to Garrison Keillor being inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1994.
