Daryl Hall and John Oates met in 1967, discovered they possessed similar music tastes and two years later began to make music together. They enjoyed success early on with the singles Sara Smile and Rich Girl, but for three years after that their career was at a standstill. Then in 1980 the Voices album was released. The album marked a dramatic turnaround for the band in terms of musical style and more important, it was at this point in their career they assumed production duties of their music.
This proved to be a smart move. Voices went platinum and spawned four Top 40 hits, including the Number One Kiss On My List. The duo then went on a run the next four years that saw three straight Top Five albums, eleven Top 40 singles, ten of those reaching the Top Ten and an astonishing four of them reaching Number One!
As with many popular eighties artists, eventually popularity dwindled and the duo fell off the charts. However, their legacy remains strong. For example, their Number One single I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) has been covered and sampled by hip-hop artists numerous times over the years.
This duo still has a great fan base and tickets remain hard-to-find when Hall and Oates perform. Lock up tickets to see Hall and Oates live, right here at TickCo!
