The Goo Goo Dolls started as a garage band in 1986. Possessing a sound mixing metal, pop punk and a hint of Minneapolis legends the Replacements, the band gathered a following by playing a lot of gigs and consistently releasing new work. By the time A Boy Named Goo, their fifth album and last for Metal Blade Records was released in 1995, the garage sound was virtually gone, replaced with a more polished touch that was radio-friendly. The single Name from that record reached Number Five on the U.S. charts, solidifying the Goo Goo Dolls place as a mainstream artist.
Dizzy Up The Girl, their next release, was huge, reaching the Number 15 position on the album chart and producing four Top 20 singles, including the ballad Iris, which was used in the movie City of Angels. This single topped out at Number Nine but spent 18 weeks as the Number One song on the Hot 100 Airplay Chart.
The Goo Goo Dools have enjoyed an impressive career and show no signs of letting up. Be sure to catch them live when they perform in your town with tickets from TickCo!
