Be a part of Coachella 2014!
The Empire Polo Field, also home of the Stagecoach Music Festival, is the setting for the Coachella Music Festival. Coachella has blossomed into a phenomenal event, showcasing a myriad of musical genres and some of the best DJs spinning tunes.
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival began as a two day festival in October of 1999. The format of the event has changed several times over the years. After the first year, the event was not held again until two years later, moved earlier in the year to April and only as a one day event. The next year the event went back to a two day format. Popularity of Coachella started to grow and as of 2007 the event expanded to its current three day format, still chock full of great music, DJs and lots of independent artists showcasing their work.
The festival has a knack for drawing bands out of hiatus or even "retirement", such as Janes Addiction, Iggy Pop and the Stooges and Bauhaus. Two of the most explosive reunions at Coachella over the years were the return of the Pixies, who have influenced hundreds of alternative rock bands since their original demise, and the controlled chaos of Rage Against the Machine, a band so electrifying live, they are capable of inciting fans to riot at any given time.
Empire Polo Field has seen many big name artists perform at Coachella on the Coachella Stage and Outdoor Theater, such as Prince, the Foo Fighters, Radiohead, the Cure and Roger Waters, along with popular underground acts on the Gobi and Mojave Stages such as Elbow, Bob Mould Band, A Place to Bury Strangers, My Morning Jacket and Sonic Youth. DJs reign supreme at Sahara, including Girl Talk, the Chemical Brothers and the Crystal Method. Who will ever forget the memorable 2004 Flaming Lips performance with lead singer Wayne Coyne crowd surfing in a man-sized space bubble? Even more impressive was the stunning, three-plus hour set put on by Sir Paul McCartney at the 2009 Coachella Festival!
