Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been one of the most prolific boxers since he started in 1996. His record, fighting style, and "Pretty Boy" looks have impressed boxing fans all over the world.
Born in Grand Rapids, MI, Floyd Mayweather Jr. was born into a "boxing" family. His father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., was a former welterweight contender and his two uncles, Jeff and Roger, who were also boxers with each holding world championship belts.
The career of Floyd Mayweather Jr. took off after winning a Bronze Medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. Winning his first professional fight in October 1996, Mayweather would go on to dominate the boxing world until his initial retirement in 2007 after defeating Ricky Hatton to retain the WBC welterweight championship. He retired with a career mark of 39-0, including 25 wins by KO. During his time in the ring he won six world boxing championships in five different weight classes.
As with many great athletes, the need for competition brought Mayweather out of retirement and is scheduled to fight Juan Manuel Márquez August of 2009. Pretty Boy Floyd is back!
