Singer/songwriter Vince Gill began his career in bluegrass and pop, but switched to mainstream country during the 80s. Gill's early career involved brief stints in numerous Kentucky and Los Angeles-based bands, including the country-rock group Pure Prairie League in the 70s and the Cherry Bombs along side Rodney Crowell and Rosanne Cash. Gill's tenure with the Cherry Bombs led to a record deal with the RCA and MCA labels.
Gill's breakthrough came in 1989 with his debut album When I Call Your Name, which sold one million copies, while the title track earned him a CMA single of the year award. His albums in the 90s were just as successful providing numerous No.1 singles including I Still Believe in You, Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away, The Heart Won't Lie, One More Chance and more.
Vince Gill's success and popularity is evident in the record-breaking 18 CMA Awards he won from 1990-99.
