Born in Dallas in 1978, Usher Raymond was first noticed by a LaFace Records executive during an appearance on Star Search. Usher, only 15-years-old, immediately auditioned for L.A. Reid and was signed to a recording contract. His self-titled debut album, produced by Sean "Puffy" Combs, was a moderate hit, but his follow up album My Way sold six million copies and featured the huge hits You Make Me Wanna and Nice & Slow.
In 2001, he released 8701 which went quadruple platinum and contained the Grammy winning singles U Remind Me and U Don't Have To Call. The album also featured the number one hit U Got It Bad. Usher was on his way to becoming a massive star. He would reach a high point in his career with 2004's Confessions. The album touched on Usher's personal relationships and focused more on his vocal abilities. Critics loved it and fans could not get enough. Confessions sold over one million copies in one week. Yeah!, Burn and Confessions Part II were fixtures on the radio. Usher picked up three more Grammys, two MTV Video Music Awards and 11 Billboard Music Awards.
In 2008, Usher released Here I Stand, produced by Jermaine Dupri, and includes collaborations with Jay-Z, Beyonce, Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy. The album marks a new era in Usher's life with more reflective, mature and creative lyrics. Once again, Usher found a way to solidify his position in the R&B world.
