The early rumblings of what was to come began as far back as 1992. Based out of Des Moines, IA, Slipknot began the transformation into the band they are today in late 1995. Early band names such as the Pale Ones and Meld were gone, and the members began to wear grotesque make-up. The theory supposedly is the band wanted to remain obscured until their music had fully developed.
The make-up soon became the masks the band is famous for today, and by the tail end of 1997 the members were assigned numbers to replace their names and as a group they began to wear uniform coveralls. The image was now in place, all Slipknot needed was the music to go with the look. Released in June of 1999, the Slipknot album put the band squarely on the map. One year later the disc was certified platinum, the first ever platinum record for Slipknot's record label at that time.
To date Slipknot has released four full-length albums, which each disc peaking higher than the previous and their latest effort in 2008, All Hope is Gone, topping the U.S. Album Charts.
Some bands cannot transfer their sound from a studio to the stage. A Slipknot show is not the case. The nine members of Slipknot throw themselves with reckless abandon into each performance, putting on a monster show every concert. A word of caution - plan on a LOT of activity if you are close to the stage. Slipknot churns out some monster pits during their shows!
