Rise Against Artist Information
Punk Rock is alive and well with Rise Against on the music scene. The Chicago-based quartet formed in 1999 by ex-88 Fingers Louie bassist Joe Principe and guitarist Dan Precision. Vocalist Tim McIlrath and drummer Brandon Barnes rounded out the band and in 2001, they released The Unraveling under Fat Wreck records. When Precision left the band that same year, he was replaced by Todd Mohney and Rise Against set out on their first extensive tour, including a stint on the Warped Tour. In 2002, they released their second album Revolutions Per Minute which was well received by fans and music critics. The recognition earned them a record deal with DreamWorks (later Geffen Records).
Under the bigger label, Rise Against released 2004's Siren Song of the Counter Culture which cracked the Billboard Top 200. A year later, the band appeared on the skateboarding film Lords of Dogtown, playing what else— a California punk band. Rise Against continued to tour for most of 2005, including a spot at the U.K.'s Reading and Leeds Festival and the Taste of Chaos tour. In 2006, they released The Sufferer & the Witness which was by far their most successful album debuting at #10 on the charts, and also tapped them as a main stage act at Warped.
In early 2007, Rise Against opened for My Chemical Romance on their national tour, participated in the Taste of Chaos and started work on their fifth studio album Appeal to Reason. They also welcomed a new member, guitarist Zach Blair. Rise Against continues to climb the charts and gain national attention with their hardcore punk and rock sound, coupled with their politically and socially active lyrics.
