Peter Frampton developed a love for music at an early age, teaching himself how to play the banjo, guitar and piano. He eventually was classically trained on guitar at the age of eight. Before the age of eighteen he had already scored a number of teeny-bopper hits in his native England. He was well on his way to a solid career when he helped form a band by the name of Humble Pie.
Humble Pie was a highly successful British rock and rhythm and blues band. Peter Frampton left the group in 1971, just as the band's live album Rockin the Fillmore was climbing up the U.S. album charts. The lack of success on the first four solo records he released made one wonder if Frampton had made the right decision leaving Humble Pie. Then 1976 came.
Peter Frampton released Frampton Comes Alive! that year. Fans went absolutely nuts and the album raced up the U.S. album charts to Number One, remaining entrenched in that spot for ten weeks, in the Top 40 for 55 weeks and in the Hot 200 for 97 weeks! The album was Number One for 1975 and was so popular that it was Number 14 the next year. More than thirty years after its release it still ranks in the Top Five live albums of all time.
A near fatal car accident in 1978 sidelined Peter Frampton for a year and he found it difficult to regain the momentum from the Frampton Comes Alive! album. Peter Frampton continues to record and play today, has played cameos in several different television shows and played himself in television commercials.
