Heavy metal has seen its share of posers throughout the years, but one band that has always carried the torch well and represented the genre of music in a positive manner is Judas Priest. One of the forerunners of this genre of music, Judas Priest began its storied career back in 1968.
The band had a tremendous influence on heavy metal, boasting a powerful two-guitar attack and the ear splitting vocals of frontman Rob Halford. This lethal combination led to a devoted fan base, loyal to the group's heavy sound and their trademark biker image look. The band scored a series of gold records in the U.S., with several of those eventually earning platinum certification.
Rob Halford left the band after the Painkiller Tour in 1991. He went on to explore different avenues of music, such as the thrash metal band Fight, his industrial project 2wo and his "return" to heavy metal Halford. Meanwhile, Judas Priest continued on with a new lead singer, but fan interest waned. The inevitable was bound to occur, and in 2003 Rob Halford rejoined Judas Priest, much to the delight of their fans.
Judas Priest is setting out with old school metal heavyweights Heaven and Hell, Motorhead and Testament for the Metal Masters Tour. Please be sure to check the listing in your area to ensure which of these bands will be on the bill in your town!
