Jethro Tull play a distinctive style of music, combining folk, classical jazz, art rock and even blues into their attack. The prime component that set the band apart was their lead singer and flute player Ian Anderson.
The band was enjoying moderate success until the release of Aqualung in 1971. An album some critics have described as a concept album, the album peaked at Number Four in the U.K. and Number Seven in the U.S, and was the band's only U.S. platinum selling album. The title track and Locomotive Breath are still vital components of the Jethro Tull set more than thirty years later.
All told the band produced seven Top Ten albums in the U.S. with two of them topping the charts. They were awarded a controversial Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal performance in 1989 for Crest of a Knave, besting Metallica in the process.
The band established a strong reputation for their theatrical performances, particularly during their prime in the seventies. Ian Anderson was often times perceived as a maniac on stage and the costumes worn were lavish and colorful.
Some of the theatrics may be gone today, but that has not diminished the power of Jethro Tull's live performances one bit. See for yourself with tickets from TickCo. Secure great seats today to see Jethro Tull live!
