Enrique Iglesias Artist Information
Soulful lyrics, sultry dance moves and a sensual voice make Enrique Iglesias one of the most famous and successful pop stars today. He grew up in the shadows of his Latin heartthrob father Julio, but that didn't stop Enrique from becoming a household name. In just 10 years, Enrique sold over 40 million albums and is now the best-selling Latin artist in the world.
Enrique Iglesias was born in Madrid, but moved to Miami when he was 3-years-old. It was in Miami that he was exposed to different cultures and musical influences, specifically Hispanic, American and European. He started singing in high school and then dropped out of the University of Miami to follow his passion for music. In 1995, Enrique released his self-titled debut album which sold a million copies in just three months. His second album Vivir sold five million albums and launched his first world tour. Enrique stacked up quite a few awards for his first two albums. He won the 1996 Grammy for Best Latin Performer, Billboard Artist of the Year, Billboard's Album of the Year, two American Music Awards, a World Music Award and the list goes on.
In 1999, Iglesias released the English-language album Enrique hoping to attract an even larger American fan base. And did it ever! Every song on the record was a hit, including "The Rhythm Divine" "Bailamos" and "Be With You." Radios and dance clubs across the country could not get enough of Enrique Iglesias. Two years later he released Escape which peaked at #2 on the charts and contained the huge singles "Hero" and "Don't Turn off the Lights."
