Before the initial "grunge" explosion out of Seattle, WA, in the early nineties, a band by the name of Mother Love Bone had developed a rabid following. When frontman Andrew Wood passed away, two of its members carried on with a new project originally entitled Mookie Blaylock. A young man with a powerful voice by the name of Eddie Vedder auditioned for the band, and the rest is music history.
Pearl Jam was one of the bands that helped define the "grunge" era. Fans were blown away with the power of the music and the band's intensity onstage. Eddie Vedder is the charismatic front man for the band, alternating the delivery of his vocals between the impassioned screeches of a song such as "Go", to the delicate and beautiful delivery of a song such as "Alive". Who can forget his unbelievable, epic performance of Bob Dylan's "Masters of War" at a Bob Dylan tribute back in 1993?
Eddie Vedder has either performed or collaborated with a diverse corp of musicians, such as Neil Young, Mike Watt, Bruce Springsteen, the Ramones and Robert Plant. He is a committed social activist, has written work for documentaries such as "Body of War" and even has acting as part of his resume. His first solo work was the 2007 soundtrack to "Into the Wild", a disc of folk rock tunes that earned him a Golden Globe Award and a Grammy Award nomination for the tune "Guaranteed".
