David Byrne Artist Information
New York's CBGB's was one of the all-time great clubs for rock and roll. A quirky band by the name of the Talking Heads, which formed in 1974, played their first gig at the legendary club opening for the Ramones. Both bands would become rock legends and eventual members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The lead singer of the Talking Heads was a former art school student by the name of David Byrne.
David Byrne had done some work outside the band during their critically acclaimed career. The Talking Heads went on hiatus after the release of Naked in 1988 and would officially disband three years later. David Byrne officially launched his solo career during that time with the release of Rei Momo in 1989. A brilliant disc with a heavy Brazilian influence, David Byrne was able to utilize his talent in a manner that he felt he could not in the Talking Heads. His solo tour from that album was an amazing affair, as the singer/guitarist was backed by a full Latin rhythm section, playing music that had the entire audience dancing and thoroughly enjoying themselves. His solo career was off to a great start.
He has continued to create music that is experimental, releasing over a dozen albums during his solo career. He has written music for many soundtracks, directed movies and created his own record label.
There are people who are simply musicians, then there are those who utilize music as art to its fullest capacity. David Byrne is a true artist and will always be a musician that creates thought-provoking music. Do not miss the opportunity to see a true rock legend perform when he comes to your town.
