Dashboard Confessional Artist Information
Alternative rock began to go through another evolution in the late nineties with a style of music built on intimate, personal lyrics and a sprawling pop sensibility. Chris Carrabba was a member of a band by the name of Further Seems Forever when he started a solo side project that he named Dashboard Confessional.
The music of Dashboard Confessional was full of heart-felt lyrics sung by Carrabba and reached a new generation of kids desperate for music they felt spoke their language. Set to a stripped down, acoustic style of music, Chris Carrabba's original side project quickly became his primary focus and by 2002 Dashboard Confessional had become a full-fledged band.
Chris Carrabba was asked to perform on MTV Unplugged and the release from that show marked the first time many of his songs were performed with a full band. Riding the momentum from that session, Dashboard Confessional went into the studio to work on their third disc. A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar was huge, peaking at Number Two on the U.S. album chart. No longer a simple side project, Dashboard Confessional was now a full-fledged big-time band.
This popularity in large part has to do with their live shows. Carrabba encourages his fans to sing along during concerts, often times stepping away from the microphone so the audience's voices can be heard. He believes this helps nurture more of an intimate feel at their shows and gives him a chance to truly connect with the audience.
