The genesis of Crosby, Stills and Nash lies in three sixties rock bands: the Byrds; the Hollies and Buffalo Springfield. Former members of these three bands, David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash were jamming together one evening and realized there was a unique vocal chemistry that they decided to explore.
The result was a thirty-plus year career that saw the band release six U.S. Top Ten albums, three reaching the coveted Number One mark. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
The group became well known for their brand of folk-rock, combining excellent harmonies and their penchant for political activism into a solid unit. The combination made for some brilliant live performances, culminating in the release of 4 Way Street in 1971, a double live album that would top the U.S. album chart.
Years of turmoil, arrests and tragedy surrounded the group after their initial splash, but even the fact that the group has not released a proper studio album since 1999 diminished their popularity. The group continues to tour and inspire their fans.
