Coldplay Tickets - Artist Information
Coldplay seemed to move from tinkering University College London students to full-fledged UK indie-rock gods in a matter of months. By 2000, fueled by the success of the single Yellow, the boys of Coldplay were well on their way to worldwide dominance.
With mellow acoustics and thought-provoking lyrics, the debut of their full-length Parachutes album gained them instant success in the US. That disc was just the start. Their enormous follow-up A Rush Of Blood To The Head sold over 14 million units worldwide and earned the band two Grammy Awards, in 2003 for Best Alternative Music Album, and a year later the single Clocks was Record of the Year. Their third disc, X&Y, though suffering from some critical backlash, as seems to eventually happen to all successful groups, nevertheless went Number One in nine different countries and has sold over 10 million units worldwide.
Coldplay's latest disc, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, prove they are a world force, once again reaching Number One across the board on the album chart. The disc shows a bit of a change of direction for the band, primarily in the vocal stylings of Chris Martin and the occasional Britpop, shoegazer style of guitar playing on display from Jonny Buckland. The second single from the disc, Viva la Vida, was the first Number One single in the U.S. for the band and reached Number One in three different countries.
Their sound recalls some of Radiohead's early moments, combined with a hint of Dave Matthews in the vocal delivery and superb musicianship to bring the package together.
