John Bongiovi had put together a demo which included a song by the name of Runaway. New York radio station WAPP 103.5FM decided to include the track on a compilation featuring local talent. The song featured Jon Bon Jovi with studio musicians, but once the single began receiving airplay he sought to put together his own band.

Bon Jovi had already released two albums with moderate success when their third disc Slippery When Wet was released in August 1986. To say the album was huge is an understatement! Slippery When Wet spend eight weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 200 Album Chart and produced two Number One singles, You Give Love a Bad Name and Livin' on a Prayer. The band had gone from being a club band to arena superstars.

Few bands have been able to make the move from pop-metal in the 80's to good ol' fashioned arena-rock in the new millennium. However, that is exactly what the hard-working boys from the Garden State were busy doing in the 90's and beyond.

Now they are enjoying big-tour success and the status of rock icon. Bon Jovi has not lost any of the spark from their early days, but have matured into the group they are today. The fact they have existed as a unit for over 25 years is amazing, but to do so with very few shake-ups in the original line-up is incredible.
