Put on those dancing shoes and get ready to groove to Planet Claire, Private Idaho, Love Shack, Legal Tender and of course, Rock Lobster! The B-52's are coming your way and the party is about to start!
The B-52's formed in Athens, GA in 1976. The name "B-52's" comes from a beehive hairdo that wraps around and has an open hole in the top of it, and singers Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson both wore wigs of that style hairdo during the early days of the group. Their music is both dance and surf influenced and the band became a integral part of the New Wave music scene. Their first album featured Rock Lobster, which to this day is still a huge club hit. The band released one more album and EP when tragedy struck the group. Guitarist Ricky Wilson passed away in 1985 and the band went on hiatus.
Their triumphant return came in 1989 with the release of the massively popular Cosmic Thing. The quirky little band from Georgia had hit the big time with a Top 5 album and two singles, Love Shack and Roam, hitting Number 3 on the charts.
Today The B-52s soldier on with the remaining four original members, including Keith Strickland, who moved from drums to guitar after the death of Ricky Wilson, and Fred Schneider on vocals with his unique delivery still intact. The B-52's will be a part of the 2008 True Colors Tour, headlined by Cyndi Lauper and with many other acts on various stops of the tour.
