The band has endured numerous line-up changes, break-ups and style changes during their career. The consistent factor in their career has been smooth singles that do well on their charts, particularly in the seventies.

After the band's initial demise in 1982, several members reunited five years later for a concert benefiting veteran's causes. The one show sparked enough interest to launch a mini-tour, and since then the Doobie Brothers have continued to record and tour with various members of the band.
